ACTION PLAN-1
On the 5th of june 06, the "ABHIVRIDH" group started their 1st venture. As planned earlier, v decided to pick a govt school in Bangalore & conduct competitions and create an awareness. The 5th of june being WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY also, the corporation school for boys-Malleshwaram gave us an opportunity & permitted us to interact with the students. Various activities like essay writing, painting & quiz took place in which the students took part with great enthusiasm in large numbers. At the end of the day, we had a speech by Mr. Srinivasan, who is a active member of the FSD. He has also involved himself in various social activities. The talk was about the depletion of various natural resouces. His language was simple & lucid and had a huge impact on the young minds.
A book stall had also been setup. Various kannada books pertaining to Science, Freedom Fighters, Scientists etc were displayed. These books were bought from BGUS.
The prizes for the competitions were sponsored by Dr. Vijoo Krishnan, a lecturer of Economics in St. Joseph's Arts And Science College, Bangalore. He is also an active member of the FSD and ABHIVRIDH.

ANALYSIS:-
->Garbage next to the school.
->No clean drinking water.
->No library facility.
->No basic stationaries.

RESERVATION- for whom???
In the most ideal of situations, we agree that there should be no reservation what so ever….
Yes, there should be no reservation and will be no reservation… but only if all students are on a an equal footing with regard to social and economic background…

What is this social and economic equality?
By this we mean:
Ø Everybody is economically equal: food, home and land
Ø Everybody is treated equally by everyone: No more Brahmins, No more Untouchables.
Ø Everybody gets equal opportunity in everything: Education, employment etc…
Ø Everybody has minimum required infrastructure: Electricity, Teaching and other basic facilities.
And we also say that reservation should be on the basis of socio-economic background.

When the issue of RESERVATION came up people said that “MERIT” would suffer.

What really is MERIT?
The very term merit is very often, especially amongst the urban population, greatly misunderstood and that theory of merit is a very misleading one.
Ø The mere consideration of marks is not sufficient to determine merit.
Ø Can the marks secured by a student from a well to do family, who has all the required infrastructure, learning opportunities etc be compared with that of a student from a rural and backward region, who is socially and economically backward, who works early in the morning to fill his stomach, then attends school where there are no proper teachers, books are not available and no infrastructure?
Ø Hence for these kinds of students (who actually are in a majority) to develop, we say, that reservation is necessary.
Ø Hence MERIT should be considered by taking into account the marks scored or academic excellence secured and also by taking into consideration the socio-economic status of the genuinely needy students.

RESERVATION IS NOT AN ULTIMATE SOLUTION, BUT AT PRESENT IT IS REQUIRED!

THINK:
Don’t the under privileged and the deprived sections of the society have a right to secure education of the best quality?
Is good quality education and are reputed institutes reserved only for the rich?

THINK SCIENTIFICALLY- DECIDE SCIENTIFICALLY- ACT RATIONALLY!

"ABHIVRIDH"- as the word suggests, stands for a universal multi- directional progress in the the socio-economic-cultural and political spectrum of our nation. Try to bring about a change in the student community, with a vision of developing the society and the nation at large. We beleive that the students and youth being a very important and inseparable part of our democratic setup, ought to take up the responsibility of propelling the society and carrying forward the nation in the direction of-"PROGRESS".... that is what we mean by "ABHIVRIDH" -our name and aim....!!!

Our Aims and Objectives:-

1.To reach out to and organise students in schools and colleges and to build a well knit intellectual student movement for the upliftment and betterment of the student community and the society at large.
2.To create awareness among the students on socio-economic-cultural and political issues.
3.To establish a democratic,scientific and progressive educational system with a greater aim of ensuring education for all.
4.To fight against every manifestation of, and oppression or discrimination based on relegion,caste,language,race,region or gender.
5.To strive for secularism,communal harmony,amity and equality of all.
6.Unite and fight for social justice and the democratic rights of all.

We hereby pledge to work dedicatedly with a vision of fulfilling our aims and strive to make this a better place to live in.
